Flatten Your Belly by Raising Your RMR
To flatten your belly you are going to have to make a couple
of significant changes. One is to include more fresh
vegetables in your eating habits, one is to get plenty of sleep
and one is to do the right kind of exercises.
Exercise is what dictates the speed of your metabolism and
your metabolism is what determines how much and how quickly you
will lose weight and flatten your belly.
Resting Metabolic Rate: It is metabolism that matters!
You know that you have the entire control of your
weight. No one else puts food in your mouth or pours
colas down your throat or ties you to the couch to watch
TV. If you do find yourself in this situation, please
call the police and get out. Did you know that it is all
about how to know your metabolism and calculate your RMR or
Resting Metabolic Rate?
What is RMR?
It is the rate which calories are used up by the body as
fuel at times that we are not doing anything or as the term
states --- resting. This is truly the most important
factor. You burn calories 24/7 just by being alive.
Your body even burns calories when you are eating. The
simple process of chewing, swallowing and digesting burn
calories. (This is the basis for the negative calorie diets,
but who wants to live on broccoli.)
There are factors that affect our RMR.
One of these is age. As we become older and more sedentary, our
muscles deteriorate and it leads to lower RMR. As a result,
aging is accompanied with gaining of weight. A simple 2+2
equation. Stop using muscles, they get smaller and flabby and
stop burning so many calories. Keep on using muscles to
walk, garden, play tennis, clean house, swim or ride a
bike. Those muscles remain strong and firm and burning
calories at a higher rate and that keeps that stomach
flatter.
Rate it on a scale. Laying down on the couch reading a
book or watching TV produces a candle flame. Sitting up
brightens that candle flame. Standing up and moving
around turns it into a torch. When you activate muscles and
turn up the metabolism, the extra burn lasts for a while after
you stop. In about an hour your metabolism will return to
the RMR. The idea is to get enough muscle mass that the
RMR is high enough to burn the fats you are eating and not
store them.
In the effort to flatten your belly, you must consider the
whole body. While walking can tone the entire body, using free
weights is a great way to tone and build muscle in a specific
area. Remember the more muscle mass the higher the
RMR.
As you take steps in increasing your RMR, you are on your
way to a lighter weight and healthier life as a whole. Even a
light weight thin person can have a bulging belly. A flat
trim belly is what we all want and you can't have that without
muscle. Work on your posture. Using your muscles to
stand or sit tall and stomach sucked in is building your
RMR.
