Herbs
Nature's pharmacy is unending. I am quite sure there are solutions and cures still to be found in nature.
Herbal supplements can be found in many forms. There are teas, capsules, pills, fresh and dried. You can buy locally grown or buy from a supplier half way around the world.
I will be adding at least one herb a week to this list so check back often. Let me know if there is a particular herb you would like more information on. I will get to it first.
Herbal Medicine or folk medicine or witchcraft is the use of plants either alone or in combination to prevent and treat certain ailments and illnesses.
It is generally recognized that there are three schools of research one can follow with regard to the history of these treatments.
There is the study of medicines based on Greek, Roman and medieval sources which is largely used by Western schools of thought, Ayurvedic which comes from India and the Eastern tradition of Chinese Herbal Medicine.
It stands to reason that most ancient peoples used plants that were native to their area which provides sound reasoning as to why different schools of thought exist.
At one time folk medicine included both philosophical and spiritual aspects along with the herbal knowledge that existed. The local Shaman would have the patient perform some ritual that might include prayers and fasting which would eliminate the toxins in the body.
The same study that determined one third of Americans used alternative therapies, the same number surveyed showed a dramatic increase in positive results to more than 60% when prayer was included in the mix.
- Cat's Claw
Cat's claw, also know as Una De Gato, is, in my opinion, a must have for everyone. It is useful in cleaning the intestinal tract, enhancing the power of white blood cells, and is both an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. Guess that is why it is so helpful in dealing with colds and flu.
- How to Pick Herbs
Once upon a time the local health food store in our small town was staffed by a sad woman, who would really have preferred to be somewhere else.
The glass gallon jars on the shelves were filled with bulk herbs that looked as forlorn and lifeless as their owner. The herbs had lost their color, and emanated a sense of futility.
