Guidelines in evaluating vitamin C products:

1. Ask if the product contains L-ascorbic acid. There are certain products containing L-ascorbic acid within a vitamin C complex. Know what form of vitamin C is used.

2. L-ascorbic acid should be at a low pH level to effectively penetrate the skin.

3. Check if the preparation is stable.

4. The product to look for is that which contains stable L-ascorbic acid, low ph and high concentration.

5. Do remember that when a label says vitamin C, it does not mean that it contains L-ascorbic acid.

Some currently advertised products containing L-ascorbic products for the skin:

Cellex-C

Uses L-ascorbic acid as its primary ingredient, combined with zinc sulphate and L-tyrosine, making the skin firmer, and reduces deep lines, which gives the skin a more youthful appearance. This formulation is applied to the face once a day and the manufacturer claim that results can be achieved within eight to twelve weeks.

C FactorTM

High in L-ascorbic acid, this product promotes cell renewal and protects the skin from future damage.

Benefits include:

1. Perks up sun-damaged skin.

2. Decreases the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

3. Improves skin tones.

4. UV Aging is inhibited to achieve younger looking skin.

5. Can be used under daily make up.

6. Pores are unclogged.

7. Has a moisturizing formula.

8. Help in the production of collagen.

9. Sustains the elasticity of the skin.

Action C

Delivers L-ascorbic acid in concentrated form, without losing potency to improve the appearance of blemished or sun damaged skin. Immediately upon the first application, it hydrates the skin resulting to a vibrant skin. Manufacturer claims that it also shields the skin from the suns rays to minimize the effect of premature aging.

HydraXtract C

Vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid) combined with vitamin E, a-bisobolol, panthenol (Pro-Vitamin B5), tocopheryl acetate (Vitamin E), aloe vera, allantoin, and chamomile extract work to a more youthful and even skin tone.

Regardless of all the benefits vitamin C provides, one should note that it is important not to get stuck on just one antioxidant alone.

Skin aging is very complicated, and although vitamin C is evidently very effective, researchers suggest that it is best to combat factors in increasing skin aging using multiple antioxidants and not relying on the few that have greater publicity. It will be incorrect to say that there is one single best antioxidant.

Finally, deal with your stress. Stress is the underlying cause of free-radicals. Stress is aging you and making it easy for disease to find a home. Exercise is a great way to release stress, but your most important weapon against stress is your own mental outlook.

You have to believe that it is worth your time and effort and expense to keep your skin healthy and youthful. Spend some time and money on learning how to relieve stress.

Stress is all in your mind. Your perception of your world is your reality. The injustices, the interruptions, the changed plans, the unfilled dreams – those are all external things – not you. Count your blessings not your problems. There are many marvelous programs out there to aid you in your search for a life with less stress.

That angry set to your mouth can be changed. Those wrinkles can be avoided. Put more joy into your life and stop trying to keep up with the fashion models and the 20 year olds who will some day be in your shoes.

Laugh lines are the face's memories of joyful living.
