Eating to Lose Weight

It's coming. The dreaded gain weight season - Thanksgiving and Christmas. Start now to save yourself.

Do you eat breakfast? If yes, what do you eat and if no, why not?

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day - more important when you are watching your weight is what you eat for breakfast.

A good breakfast will help you eat better all day. But a sugar breakfast will just help you put on the pounds all day long.

Challenge ---- no sugar before noon. The first meal - within an hour of getting up - needs to be one full of protein. No sugar cereal with milk. No sugar and creamer with that coffee or tea. No artificial sweeteners either. Save the fruit for a mid-morning snack.

Remember the good ol' egg. Boil, poach, or even scramble. No bread. You can have some lean meat with that egg.

Now get out there. You are full of energy, clear headed and ready to take on any challenge.

Have you put exercise equipment on your Christmas wish list?

until next time - eat right

Watch What You Eat

I decided to follow that advice and watch what I eat.

The first problem I had was that my eyes would cross just about the time the fork got to my mouth. I tried closing one eye and that helped.

Next problem, once the food entered my mouth I could not see it anymore.

The next time I could see a trace of that food -- it was on the outside of my stomach - it was the dreaded fat belly. There must be a better way.

Maybe we need to revise that phrase, maybe it should be look at the food and evaluate where it is going to be used. Honestly accept will it be used or stored. If the choice is between chips and a piece of fruit - you don't have to watch what you eat, you need to choose healthy.

You know that you must eat to keep your metabolism working hard. So eat low calorie - that forces your body to give up the stored energy - stored fat. You don't want to lose what muscle mass you have, so you need protein and exercise. You don't have to run for miles but you do need to do some weight training - not gain weight training---- you know how to do that. You need the weight training that improves muscles strength and mass.

Can you lose belly fat by watching what you eat? You lose belly fat by choosing what you eat.

until next time - eat healthy

Speed of eating key to obesity

The old wives' tale about chewing everything 20 times might be true - if you did take a bit more time eating. Slowing down also means swallowing less air, less bloating, easier elimination and yes that all important weight loss.

Wolfing down meals may be enough to nearly double a person's risk of being overweight, Japanese research suggests. Osaka University scientists looked at the eating habits of 3,000 people and reported their findings in the British Medical Journal. Problems in signaling systems which tell the body when to stop eating may be partly responsible, said a UK nutrition expert.
He said deliberately slowing down at mealtimes might impact on weight.

Negative Calorie Foods - Really?

You will find a free list of negative calorie foods below, but first---

There is no such thing as a negative calorie - a calorie is a unit of heat and it cannot be negative. So when people talk about negative calorie foods, this is just a food whose calorie level is low enough that it takes more energy to eat it and digest it than the food contains.

For example, if you consider water to be a food, then cold water is certainly a negative calorie food. It contains no calories at all and the body has to expend energy to bring the cold water up to blood temperature. So every time we drink a glass of cold water we burn up a couple of calories and lose a little weight.

But there are very few foods like this. Most foods that are on the list do not really use more calories than they add, or if they do the effect is negligible ... until you remember that at the same time you are eating, your body expends energy just to keep alive and breathing. Celery for example does not give us enough calories to cover both the energy that it takes to digest it, plus the energy that we expend even when we are doing nothing. So that is why people call it a negative calorie food....... Negative Calorie Foods

How about this picture - You are going for your daily walk, at least half of that walk is brisk enough to build some muscle and you are munching on celery and drinking your distilled water which you have in your own bottle to save the land fill from plastic.

Yes, it has been quite a while since I posted to this blog. I have been too stressed out to post here or on the anti-stress blog.

Do you have a storage area in your home? When was the last time you cleaned it out and threw away the junk you no longer need? Is your storage area in one place or spread out in every room? Yup - like body like home.

The belly fat issue is two fold. You lack the back muscle to hold the front of your torso in proper place and sugar and bad fats need some place to stay if not used.

For the next 3 days give up something - margarine or white bread or cola or sugar or you pick. If you can live without that for 3 days you can live longer without it for the rest of your life.

until next time - laugh

Food Journals on the Rise

Do you keep a food journal? How about an exercise journal? How about one journal for both?

Any little spiral notebook can serve the purpose. You can draw a line down the middle and list food on one side and exercise on the other.

The benefit of a food journal is to keep you honest and your memory accurate. If you don't write it down, it still piles on the calories.

If you are still trying to lose weight by not eating - then a food journal points out how many hours you went with a slow metabolism caused by not putting some food in your stomach.

If you did only 3 crunches then at the end of the day yes you can say that you exercised - but you need to work on adding one more crunch tomorrow.

The empty pages in your journal point out in black and white just how many days you put off taking a walk.

It was a little excesses that put on the weight.

Putting off until tomorrow eventually leads to no tomorrow.

until next time - smile - it is exercise for your face.
