Fight that Belly Bloat

January 13th, 2012

We all say we know the way to lose weight. Simple — eat less, exercise more — But is it really that simple.

Hormones and metabolism out of whack, too little food at the wrong times of the day, too much of the wrong kind of exercise and most important too little sleep.

You can be working hard but doing the wrong things.  You can drink your glasses of water every day but if you are still drinking a couple of sodas every day you still maintain your belly bloat. One of the side effects of carbonation is that it takes up space, encreases the size of that space and really makes you uncomfortable.  You have just been doing it so long, you don’t realize what is going on.

You can struggle to do a dozen or more sit ups every day and not reduce your belly.  It is a fine thing to strengthen muscles but if the fat under the muscles is still there the belly bulge is still there.

Are you eating a healthy breakfast? If not strike one and that just continues for the rest of the day. Are you getting less than 8 hours of sleep every night? Do you wake up multiple times in the night?

And to complete the vicious circle, are you stressed because of your weight and appearance.  Stress will pack on those pounds.

My number one exercise to reduce pounds and stress is walking. Walk as fast as you can while still being able to carry on a conversation. Breathe deeply through your nose.  Try sucking in your stomach for a half-block at a time or if you are using a treadmill, try for 30 seconds.

Little things repeated over a period of time have great results.

Lose the belly not your mind

March 12th, 2010

Some days it seems that your mind will explode.  Some days it seems your belly will explode. Then there are days when both seem likely.

My mind is overwhelmed with trying to get this blog moved to another platform and my belly is complaining that food has been sporadic and not very healthy.

Oh well, tonight is a glass of wine and the fervent hope that this blog is finally fixed.
